📖About the contest

The Business Case Development Contest is an internal contest held every year by the Business Administration major, and the 2026 contest, expected around November 19 with the exact date to be announced, asks students to solve the management problems of a company with business models. Participants are about 283 students in seven groups: Healthcare Management, Sports Management, Media Management, Psychology Management, Bio Management, Data Management and Global Business AI, and the purpose is for each group to combine its own major with business and offer solutions from a different angle. The deliverables are a business case report that analyzes a real company and proposes alternatives, plus a presentation, and the goal is a proposal of a quality that a company's management could read and evaluate. Only the broad direction of the theme has been decided, so the seven tasks below are example directions that help each group develop a case showing the character of its own major combination; teams may freely choose a case that fits their group, and detailed schedules will be posted here once confirmed.

This page turns the seven tasks into short stories so that you can understand what problems a healthcare company may face and from what angle each major combination can solve them. Before each story you will find three questions the task must answer, and the three questions follow the basic structure of a business case: defining the problem, designing the business model and planning execution. A good business model starts from the knowledge of your major but must explain customers, revenue, costs and partners in one picture, so when writing the report it is useful to fill in all nine elements of a tool such as the Business Model Canvas. Adding your student ID and name to the list at the end of a story helps classmates with the same interest find each other and form a team, and the professors plan team formation and guidance based on the list.

🏥The Hospital That Stepped Outside

Task 1 · Healthcare Management (Digital Health + Business)

A digital healthcare service model that continues outside the hospital

Services that care for patients after they leave the clinic, and how they earn revenue

Example direction and three questions to answer

  1. Defining the problemGaps in care after discharge, revisits of chronic patients, disconnected data outside the hospital
  2. Designing the business modelA service linking remote monitoring, health apps and care; who pays how much
  3. Planning executionPilot departments and partners, regulatory review, first-year cost and revenue estimates

The Hospital That Stepped Outside

A doctor at a large hospital cared for patients with devotion in the clinic, but from the moment a patient walked out the door until the next appointment the doctor knew nothing about what they ate, how much they walked or whether they took their medicine on time. A young planner connected the data from patients' watches and phones to their medical records, designed a service in which nurses reached out first to patients outside the hospital, and checked one by one with insurers, companies and patients who would pay for it. When the pilot ended, emergency visits by chronic patients fell and the hospital's reputation rose, but the planner was left with the task of proving in numbers what structure would turn the service from a cost into revenue. The team taking this task must define the gap in care outside the hospital with the knowledge of digital health, design a business model linking remote monitoring, health management and care, and propose a pilot plan with first-year costs and revenue.

🏃The Clinic That Became a Playing Field

Task 2 · Sports Management (Sports Medicine + Business)

A health management business combining sports medicine and exercise prescription

Turning exercise after treatment into a hospital service

Example direction and three questions to answer

  1. Defining the problemDemand for rehabilitation and preventive exercise, the gap between hospitals and fitness, needs of older people and office workers
  2. Designing the business modelProducts and prices bundling an exercise prescription clinic, a sports center and corporate health checks
  3. Planning executionStaff and facilities, partner sports institutions, member and revenue estimates

The Clinic That Became a Playing Field

A patient who had knee surgery was told at discharge to exercise regularly, but no one told him which exercises or how much, so he drifted between the local gym and the hospital until he gave up. The hospital's sports medicine team opened an exercise prescription clinic where doctors prescribed exercise and specialists guided it, bundled corporate health checks and fall prevention programs for older people into products, and built a small playing field next to the hospital. As members grew, the hospital welcomed patients whose treatment had ended as long-term members instead of losing them, and the team began to calculate how to balance members, prices and staff so that the business could run on its own. The team taking this task must define the demand for rehabilitation and preventive exercise with the knowledge of sports medicine, design a business model bundling an exercise clinic, a sports center and corporate checks, and propose an execution plan for staff, facilities and revenue.

📺A Voice You Can Trust

Task 3 · Media Management (AI Medical PR and Media + Business)

Content and brand strategy that builds trust in medical information

A business that makes the hospital's voice believable amid a flood of health information

Example direction and three questions to answer

  1. Defining the problemSpread of false health information, awareness and trust in the hospital brand, media habits of the young
  2. Designing the business modelA content channel run by medical staff with AI production tools; revenue from ads, subscriptions and partnerships
  3. Planning executionProduction team and review process, targets per channel, first-year budget

A Voice You Can Trust

When people fell ill they opened their phones before visiting a hospital, and inside the phone thousands of health tips said different things, so they did not know whom to believe and grew even more anxious. The hospital's communications team opened a channel where doctors and nurses delivered accurate information in short videos and posts, used AI tools to cut production time, and set up a process in which medical staff reviewed every piece, building trust step by step. As subscribers grew the hospital's name came to be remembered as a voice you can trust, and the team began to consider which revenue structure among ads, subscriptions and corporate partnerships would sustain the business without harming that trust. The team taking this task must define the problem of information trust with the knowledge of medical PR and media, design a business model combining a medical staff content channel with AI production tools, and propose an execution plan covering the production team, review process and targets per channel.

Example direction and three questions to answer

  1. Defining the problemPatient anxiety during care, burnout of caregivers and medical staff, access to mental health services
  2. Designing the business modelCounseling, digital therapeutics and patient experience programs as products; cooperation with companies and insurers
  3. Planning executionSpecialists and space, indicators of effect, phased expansion

The Waiting Room That Listens

In the hospital waiting room sat a patient whose hands shook while waiting for test results, a caregiver exhausted from a night of nursing, and a nurse who had lost her smile, but no one asked how they felt. The hospital's psychology team opened a listening desk in the waiting room offering short counseling and digital therapy programs, and redesigned the whole experience from entering to leaving so that someone was there at every moment when anxiety grew. When patient satisfaction rose and staff turnover fell, the hospital learned that mental health is an investment rather than a cost, and the team began to look for ways to sell the service to corporate employees and insurance subscribers. The team taking this task must define the mental health problems of patients, families and staff with the knowledge of psychology, design a business model bundling counseling, digital therapeutics and patient experience programs, and propose an execution plan with staff, space and indicators of effect.

  2. Designing the business modelChoosing among licensing, joint ventures and in-house development; customers and revenue structure
  3. Planning executionMilestones and required funding, partner institutions, risks and responses

From the Lab to the Market

Scientists at the research institute completed excellent cell and gene technology over many years, but it stayed in papers and slept in the laboratory freezer without becoming a product that reached patients. A young planner from the institute and the hospital drew a one-page map with the scientists showing which patients' problems the technology solved, how to pass regulatory and clinical stages, and where and how much funding was needed. Weighing the pros and cons of in-house development, licensing and joint ventures, the planner chose one road, and the technology in the freezer began to move toward the market for the first time. The team taking this task must define the barriers to commercialization with the knowledge of bio-pharmaceuticals and cell and gene regenerative medicine, choose among licensing, joint ventures and in-house development to design a business model, and propose an execution plan with milestones, funding and risks.

  2. Designing the business modelWhere to create value among operational improvement, research cooperation and data products; revenue and costs
  3. Planning executionData governance and staff, the first pilot project, indicators of success

The Hospital Where Numbers Speak

Decades of medical records, test results and appointment data slept on the hospital's basement servers, but each department kept its data separately and everyone was afraid of handling personal information, so no one spoke to the numbers. The hospital's data team safely masked personal information, linked the data together, started a pilot that predicted bed occupancy, waiting times and readmissions with AI, and set rules for sharing data with research institutes and companies. When the numbers began to speak, the hospital learned where costs leaked and where patients waited, and the team began to search for ways to turn this capability into new revenue beyond operational improvement. The team taking this task must define the problem of data use with the knowledge of medical data and data management, choose where to create value among operational improvement, research cooperation and data products to design a business model, and propose an execution plan with governance, a pilot project and indicators.

  3. Planning executionTarget countries and partners, staff and language support, first-year patient and revenue estimates

A Letter from Across the Sea

A letter arrived at the hospital from across the sea, in which a family wrote that they wanted a treatment unavailable at home but hesitated because they did not know which hospital to trust, whether they could communicate, or how to pay. The hospital's international team, together with students from many countries, studied how hospitals are chosen in that family's country and its health system and culture, and designed a structure in which AI assisted first consultations in several languages and a local hospital handled follow-up care. When the first patient completed treatment and returned home safely, more letters began to arrive from that country, and the team started planning which countries to choose first and which partners to work with so that the business would last. The team taking this task must define the selection criteria and barriers of overseas patients from the viewpoint of international students, design a business model combining patient attraction, local cooperation and AI consultation, and propose an execution plan with target countries, partners and first-year estimates.
